President Christine Petrin is originally from Memphis, Tennessee, which means the occasional “y’all” slip is pretty much inevitable. She attended Barnard College in New York City and graduated in 2013. She currently works as a Research Assistant at GW researching clinical practices in obesity medicine as well as the policies that influence coverage of obesity prevention and treatment. Her dream job is to be Surgeon General and/or Olivia Pope, but right now she’s focused on applying to medical school and thinking of fun HPSA events. Her hobbies include ending emails with a funny .gif, drinking obscene amounts of coffee, and spending way too much money on spin class. She checks Broadway.com more than Facebook and she is a devout follower all Shonda Rhimes productions. She’ll read anything by Atul Gawande (often more than once) and welcomes recommendations for random Netflix documentaries. She is thrilled to serve as your 2015-2016 HPSA President!
VP of Programs & Events Samantha Satchell is from New Jersey and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Health and Societies (a fancy way to say Public Health) from the University of Pennsylvania. She currently works on Capitol Hill as a Health Policy Analyst for the Energy and Commerce Committee Democratic Staff. She previously worked as a Research Assistant in GW’s Department of Health Policy on a project examining the experiences of Federally Qualified Health Centers participating in Marketplace plans established under the ACA. In her spare time she often binge watches videos from her favorite YouTube vloggers and historical documentaries on Netflix (for educational procrastination). Every now and then she attempts to cook something delicious, and sometimes succeeds. Samantha is excited to begin another school year in the best place to be a Health Policy student. She looks forward to all the awesome professional events and DC adventures HPSA has planned for this year.
VP of Finance Claire Houterman is a proud Wisconsinite, but completed her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Spanish from the beautiful Indiana University. She is currently a research assistant for Dr. Polly Pittman investigating various topics pertinent to the dynamic and flexible health workforce, and just finished an internship on the Hill, where she served as a health policy intern for Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA). This summer, she completed her Practicum with CF Health Advisors, a consulting firm located near the Hill. In her spare time, she likes to teach swim lessons, kayak, cook, and eat cupcakes. Before starting her dream job as a researcher/analyst at GAO (fingers crossed!), Claire would love to travel to Machu Picchu and Egypt. She is looking forward to an exciting year with lots of bonding, personal development, and fun!
VP of Communications Molly Benoit is from South Florida and a proud graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!). She is currently working at the GW Office for Clinical Practice Innovation on Urgent Matters, a program dedicated to the dissemination of innovation in Emergency Medicine. She is also spending time on her practicum at Children’s National Medical Center, researching insurance coverage of pediatric urology care. Prior to working on those projects, Molly worked as a Research Assistant in the GW Department of Health Policy. Molly loves to run around the National Mall, spend Sunday’s at the Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market and spend time catching up with friends over happy hour.
VP of Mentorship Laurel Fuller is from La Canada, California and aside from school, is the Assistant Program Coordinator for SUMMIT in the GW Center for Student Engagement. She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Laurel would ideally like to work on mental health policy, especially at a think tank. She has a black lab/boarder collie mix named Barley–together they love hiking and playing in the park! She would love to travel around Latin America and spends down time watching movies and TV–she’s currently binge watching foreign crime mini series!
